Dear Families,
We are off to a great start here at LGN! Our students have been in school for about a week and they are really getting the routines and procedures mastered. Our teachers are diving into curriculum and are looking forward to sharing with families on Wednesday, September 18 at our Curriculum Night. Kindergarten and Grade 1 will host families at 6:00 pm and our Grade 2 and 3 will host at 6:45 pm. Our specialists will be located in the cafeteria to showcase the amazing things they do here at LGN. We will also have information available for our Title 1 initiatives. We hope to see you on the 18th!
Warm regards,
Mr. Higgins
Principal

On Friday, September 13, LGN will be celebrating International Dot Day.
The Dot is a story written by Dedham native Peter Reynolds. International Dot Day celebrates Creativity, Courage, and Collaboration! He writes:
“Imagine the power and potential of millions of people around the world connecting, collaborating, creating and celebrating all that creativity inspires and invites. Peter hopes you will join the growing global community of creativity champions using their talents, gifts and energy to move the world to a better place.”
“Spread the word… On International Dot Day, read The Dot, wear dots, eat dots, draw dots, frame dots, connect the dots, splurge on art supplies, try a new medium — a new instrument, write a poem, rearrange your furniture, reconnect the dots with an old friend, make something, or make something with a friend. Share your creativity with the world.”
Please wear dots to school on Friday! Don't have dots? No problem! Wear Norton Purple or even your favorite shirt.

We ask for your assistance and cooperation in ensuring that the arrival and dismissal procedures and rules are followed properly.
Buses
Students who attend LGN have the option to ride the bus. We strongly encourage you to have your student(s) ride the bus. This will reduce traffic on Plain Street during arrival and dismissal. Large buses and mini buses line up in front of the school and next to the school to drop off and pick up. Please DO NOT enter the lot/loop when buses are dropping off or picking up students.
Parent Drop Off
You may also choose to drive your children to and from school. Parents do not enter the LGN parking lot until a staff member indicates that all mini-buses are gone. Cars are to line up on Plain Street, parked to the side to allow for two way traffic and not before 7:30 AM.
Staff, including the principal, open doors for students to exit the car. Students should be sitting on the passenger side of the car. Parents should remain in the car at all times.
Parent Pick Up
Cars wait on Plain Street, not to arrive until 2:00 PM, until a staff member waves them to come into the parking lot. Staff open doors to let students into the car. Parents can pull forward in the circle to buckle their children, which helps to expedite the process.
|
|
|
Important to Note
You will be directed to form two lanes upon entering the parking lot. This will help to get more cars off Plain Street as we load/unload students into and out of vehicles. One lane at a time will pull up to an orange traffic cone (look for Principal Higgins!) so we can load/unload more cars at a time. Please stay focused and ready during this time. You should NEVER be on your phone or otherwise distracted while in car line. Once your child is in your car you are asked to please pull forward in the driveway in order to buckle them in.
Please obey all traffic laws at arrival/dismissal time. You may not block driveways, road ways, or intersections. For the safety of our students we ask that you drop off and pick up in the car line unless you are walking to and from school each day. For the safety of all we will no longer allow parents to pick up by parking and walking across Plain Street. If you need to park and pick up your child at dismissal time we ask that you park along the fence line next to the softball field and walk along the driveway to the left of the yellow line. This will be much safer and will not interrupt the flow of car traffic in the parking lot.
Thank you for you help in keeping our students safe and our traffic moving!

Is your CORI check up to date?
We love having visitors in our building, but the safety of our students, staff and families is our number one concern. If you or another family member plan to volunteer for field trips or to work in your child’s classroom, we ask that you complete a CORI form (Criminal Offender Record Information). These forms are good for 3 years. If you are a returning family and believe that you have a valid CORI form on file, please check with the main office.
