Superintendent’s Message
Spring is finally here and it seems crazy to believe that in just two weeks we will break for our annual April vacation. This year has certainly flown by from my perspective!
Over the next few weeks, you will be hearing from Norton Public Schools and the other departments in the community about our upcoming budget process and the challenges that each department is facing. Our school budget is located on the NPS website and is available for anyone to view, including line by line financials.
The Norton School Committee and our administrative team are working closely with the Selectboard and Finance Committee to understand the possible scenarios ahead and to advocate for the needs of our students. At this time, we are projecting layoffs that will impact all schools and grade levels. Neither the School Committee or the administrative team are taking these decisions lightly; none of us want to make decisions that take resources away from our students and classrooms.
As we get more information from the town on the recommended budget, we will be providing the community with details on what exactly these layoffs will mean in terms of teaching and learning for our students. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging time. Town Meeting takes place on Monday, May 13th at Norton High School.
